JONATHAN'S MENU SELECTION - WB Pizza

We have been die-hard Puccini's and Some Guy's pizza fans for MANY, MANY years.

But one day we got a coupon page for WB Pizza, and honestly, the photo on the cover made me load Steph and the kids into the car and visit.

Discreetly planted on the southeast corner of 62nd & Allisonville, WB occupies an old Little Caesar's Pizza shop. The northeast corner houses pizza titan, Some Guy's. It was a little scary to drive PAST Some Guy's to get to this little "nothing" spot.

There is nothing appealing about the strip that houses WB. There is very little appeal to the small, simple dining room. While it is not well appointed, it is, at least, a warm and inviting space.

But the magic begins beyond the environs and in the kitchen. And on our first visit we scored BIG, by taking a wild guess and nailing the most incredible pizza i've ever eaten. EVER EATEN.

It's called "The Metro" (hold your comments).

Chicken, Portabello, Red Peppers & Shrimp (but i'm allergic, so we sub Artichokes for Shrimp), on white sauce. All ingredients culminate into an incredible blend of flavors on the most delicious, chewy, flavorful pizza crust I've ever eaten. H E A V E N .

Steph and the kids are diehard fans of the WB breadsticks.

We've also enjoyed just a simple sausage pizza. But there was nothing simple about it. Again, delightfully chewy crust, a homemade rustic red sauce, and amazing, spicy italian sausage.

WB Pizza is one of the city's best kept secrets. They've been firmly planted at 62nd & Allisonville for more than 10 years. So next time you pull into Some Guys, you might want to continue on to the next strip center south, and give WB a try. You may never go back.

JONATHAN'S MENU SELECTION - Mitchell's Fish Market

I've become addicted to ANYTHING cooked "Shanghai" style at Mitchell's Fish Market.

Shanghai Pacific Cod

a - mazing.

Shanghai serves it up on a bed of sticky rice and sauteed spinach and drenched in rice-wine soy sauce. I don't even need the fish. Just bring me a bowl of the spinach and rice.

One of the few meals I inhale.

You need to make it to Mitchell's in Clay Terrace for lunch and try it.

Then pop in to Keller Williams across the street and visit us! Better yet, come visit us FIRST and I'll let you treat me to lunch at Mitchell's!

Designer Moment - My Color Choices

My top picks for interior walls at this time:

French Gray Linen (Porter) A very muted gray-green can act as a good body color for a warm OR cool scheme. It's very transitional.

Silver Mist (Sherwin Williams) - Everyone wants that soft silvery, robin's egg blue right now. This one is again, very muted and transitional.

Seal Skin (Sherwin Williams) - A very deep brown-black. Amazing contrast against the two colors above.

and, my old standby

Fencepost White (Sherwin Williams - from their old exterior palette). Transitions with different color palettes from room to room. Don't be deceived by the word "white", this is more of a muted putty tone that contrasts great with white trim.

Paint finish should always be FLAT on walls, if possible. EGGSHELL for areas that need to be scrubbed. And HIGH GLOSS for trimwork or paneling.

JONATHAN'S MENU SELECTION: Behold, The Pretzel Roll

I had no idea what I was missing until last Wednesday.

Apparently, every Wednesday is the "BBQ Pulled Pork" special at Gelato Da Vinci up here at Clay Terrace.

I have to say, I've been a resident worker here at Clay Terrace for the better part of a year, and I had given Gelato Da Vinci a chance early on, and then immediately dismissed it in loyalty (and snobbery) to Petit Chou - my first love.

Well Gelato Da Vinci has been trying to play catch up for the last few months, refining it's menu and capitalizing on the overflow from it's successful Petit neighbor next door. But it wasn't until a friend of mine insisted that I try the BBQ Pulled Pork special, that I reluctantly passed by my Petit Chou comfort zone, and ventured into a new enlightenment.

See, there's no question that I received an ample serving of delicious pulled pork smothered in a sweet and savory bbq sauce, but the blinders came off with my first taste of a pretzel roll.

o m g

Amazing. Where has this bread product been all my life???

Apparently at Gelato Da Vinci - and many other locations, because when I started to spread the gospel of the pretzel roll, my friends were like "um, duh, I buy them at Trader Joe's."

So friends, if you've lived in the darkness of baked-goods ignorance, as I had until last Wednesday, please step into the light, wait until Wednesday, head to Gelato Da Vinci, and have the "BBQ Pulled Pork" Special on a pretzel roll.

Prepare to be delighted.
